چکیده

Exploring the effects of expertise on eye movements and visual search behavior of surgeons may help to improve and speed up the training of novices. However, comparing scan patterns to each other is a non-trivial task. This work employs several state-of-the-art, automated scan pattern comparison methods to re-analyze eye-tracking data of neurosurgeons that was captured during the observation of a tumor removal. We evaluate whether these methods can reproduce the findings from the original manual analysis and compare their performance regarding different eye-tracking metrics. Among the considered methods, SubsMatch revealed significant differences between eye movement patterns of expert surgeons and novices for all stimulus images.

Assessment of electrocardiogram visual interpretation strategy based on scanpath analysis.

Automated ECG interpretation systems are supposed to follow human expert reasoning. Despite well-established standards, the visual interpretation strategy of the human is still undisclosed today. This paper presents a new approach to the interpretation process research based on eyetrack features captured from a human expert during biosignal visual inspection. This approach required a set of vis...

Semi-quantitative segmental perfusion scoring in myocardial perfusion SPECT: visual vs. automated analysis

Introduction: It is recommended that the physician apply at least a semi-quantitative segmental scoring system in myocardial perfusion SPECT.  We aimed to assess the agreement between automated semi-quantitative analysis using QPS (quantitative Perfusion SPECT) software and visual approach for calculation of summed stress  score (SSS), summed rest score (SRS) and summed difference score (SDS). ...

Humans have idiosyncratic and task-specific scanpaths for judging faces

Since Yarbus's seminal work, vision scientists have argued that our eye movement patterns differ depending upon our task. This has recently motivated the creation of multi-fixation pattern analysis algorithms that try to infer a person's task (or mental state) from their eye movements alone. Here, we introduce new algorithms for multi-fixation pattern analysis, and we use them to argue that peo...

Selective scanpath repetition during memory-guided visual search

Visual search efficiency improves with repetition of a search display, yet the mechanisms behind these processing gains remain unclear. According to Scanpath Theory, memory retrieval is mediated by repetition of the pattern of eye movements or "scanpath" elicited during stimulus encoding. Using this framework, we tested the prediction that scanpath recapitulation reflects relational memory guid...
